Editorial Policy

This page explains how Kids Aren’t Cars decides what to publish, where its information comes from, and how articles are kept current. The site covers child passenger safety, so accuracy matters more than speed.

How We Choose Topics

We start from questions parents and caregivers actually ask: when to change car seat stages, how to check a seat’s fit, what a state law requires, and how to handle common situations on the road. We also return to a topic when official guidance, a federal rule or a state law changes.

Sources We Rely On

Safety claims should trace back to an organization that can be checked directly. We give priority to:

  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and other government agencies
  • The American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
  • Current state statutes and motor vehicle agencies
  • Peer-reviewed research in injury prevention and child health
  • Car seat and vehicle manufacturer manuals and recall notices

Sources are listed at the end of each guide. We do not treat commercial blogs, forums or product marketing as evidence for a safety claim.

Checks Before Publishing

Before an article goes live, its numbers, dates and recommendations are compared with the sources it cites. We separate what the law requires from what safety organizations recommend, and we say so when evidence is limited or when a manufacturer’s instructions may be stricter than general guidance.

What We Do Not Claim

Articles are published under the name of the site’s editor, Fernandes Juliano Rodrigues. That byline does not mean a physician, lawyer or certified Child Passenger Safety Technician reviewed the article. A professional reviewer will be named on an article only when one has actually taken part. We do not publish crash tests or product tests of our own, and we do not present general guidance as advice for your specific child, seat or vehicle.

Updates

Guides with changing information, such as state laws and federal compliance dates, carry a “Last Updated” date. When guidance changes, we revise the affected section and the date. See our Corrections Policy for how errors are handled.

Advertising and Independence

The site is funded by advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertisers have no role in choosing topics or shaping what we write. Ads are shown separately from editorial content, and we never ask readers to click on them. More about us is on the About page.
